Star Wars N-Gage monthly competitions begin, replace your DVD player with R2D2!

While we're on the subject of Star Wars, you may like to know that the official Force Unleashed N-Gage site has now opened its video competition where you can win various SW goodies including a remote control R2D2 with built-in DVD projector. As far as we can tell, you have to upload a video clip showing how you would "N-Gage/engage the Force", whatever that means. The entries for each month are shown on the site, and each month two of the entries win a prize, with non-winners automatically entered the next month too. All the monthly winners then go into a grand draw in March 2009 to win R2D2. (There's also a separate text-based contest where you write how you would "Unleash the Force" in under 25 words to win another load of 'Wars stuff.)

Star Wars for N-Gage updated to fix language bug

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has received an update (v 1.0.10) which fixes a bug in the Spanish language version of the game. The bug was serious enough to stop Spanish-speakers finishing a level, so the developers have fixed it and reissued the game. You can get the new version by re-downloading the game's trial demo from the N-Gage app's Showroom, which should automatically turn into the full game if you've already purchased it.

Yes, you CAN still transfer N-Gage games from one phone to another

AAN recently heard reports that some Nokia customer service staff were claiming game transfers from one phone to another were no longer possible. We've checked with Nokia about this and they assure us that transfers ARE still possible, anyone who tells you otherwise is mistaken. If you've had problems getting Nokia's customer services to do a transfer, go to the official N-Gage Game Activation Support Forum and send a private message to one of the moderators explaining your problem (the mods' names are marked in red).

Pro Series Golf updated to fix compatibility problems, now available on 5320 too

Nokia's Pro Series Golf has been updated to a new version which fixes compatibility problems with v1.10 of the N-Gage application. This means it should now work properly with the latest N-Gage app update, and it also means it's now available on the 5320 XpressMusic for the first time. You can get the latest version by downloading the trial from the Showroom, if you've already bought the game it should automatically unlock itself into the purchased version.

Happy 5th Birthday N-Gage!

The very first original gen N-Gage launched five years ago today, on the 7th of October 2003. It's not exactly been a smooth journey since then of course, though the next gen platform seems to be doing better than the original gen did at this stage in its life. But enough about the next gen... Those of you who want to wallow in nostalgia for the device that kicked off this entire adventure should check out our Classic N-Gage section, which contains all of AAN's original gen game reviews, features and game news. The original gen forum is also still in operation if you've got an N-Gage or QD and want to chat about it.

Updated version of N-Gage application released

There's a new version of the N-Gage app available for all compatible phones which (amongst other things) fixes the infamous 10,000 points bug. You can download the new version straight onto your device by opening the app, selecting "Options" and then "Check For Updates". Alternatively you can download the new version onto your PC and then install it manually, which you can do from the official website's "Get N-Gage" section. You can read more about the new version over on the official forums. (via the Official N-Gage Blog)

The Nokia 5800 and what it means for N-Gage

Nokia today announced the 5800 XpressMusic, the first touchscreen phone based on the S60 platform (which is the platform used by N-Gage-compatible phones). Although it's obviously being compared to Apple's phones, the 5800 costs about half the iPhone's price, and is consequently aimed at a more mainstream mass audience. The 5800 is also the first phone to use the latest S60 5th Edition platform. But what does all this mean for the N-Gage platform?
